Bill advises clients in the areas of business, corporate, and commercial law; civil and commercial trials and appeals; contract law; estate planning; and trust and estate administration. He is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Iowa Association for Justice, and Story County Bar Association.

Bill is of counsel with New Point Law Firm, plc. Bill began practicing law with the Parker Law Firm in Nevada, Iowa in 1990. He joined the Newbrough Law Firm, LLP, as a partner in 2004.

A native of Audubon, Iowa, Bill was raised in the Livestock Nutrition and Equipment industry and spent his years before college working at the family horse production facility and feed supplement factory.

After graduation from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Business Management, Bill managed several ag product distribution centers and a farmer/rancher agricultural products sales force for nearly 15 years. Bill then attended and graduated from Drake Law School with honors.

In 2001, after being trained by both the Mediation Training & Consultation Institute of Ann Arbor Michigan and the American Academy of ADR Attorneys, Bill added mediation to his practice. He is particularly well-known for mediating corporate and family farm disputes, and large asset dissolutions.

Bill has served as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and twice as president of the Story County Bar Association.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Understanding the need for skilled legal representation for members of the community that are experiencing difficult financial situations, Bill served 25 years as a director of the Story County Legal Aid Society.

Bill was a founding member of the Nevada Economic Development Council and together with a small group of professions within that organization, helped to create an industrial park, a business park, and acquire land for the creation of an aquatic/recreational facility in Nevada. Bill was also instrumental in having land in that development park transferred to Story County for the construction of the Story County Courthouse.

Shortly after Bill moved his family to Ames in 2003, he served as a director of the Ames Chamber of Commerce and continues to serve the Ames Chamber of Commerce as counsel. Bill also graduated from Leadership Ames Class XXIII.

In 2009, Bill was elected to the Ames Community School District Board, and together with other like-minded directors pioneered the One-to-One Program (a take-home computer in the hands of every student.) Also, in collaboration with those directors, they planned and built three new elementary schools, fully renovated two elementary schools, all while achieving early payoff of a 30 million dollar construction bond, reducing the total tax levy, and reducing the annual operating budget by nearly 4 million dollars.

Bill frequently works with young musicians, developing business plans, coping with the barriers to operating a small business, and has been credited on albums for his guidance and support.

In his spare time, Bill and his wife, Jill, like to travel and visit their sons in Urbandale and Chicago.
